Alice and John, Kelmarsh Hall wedding
Alice and John, Kelmarsh Hall wedding, summer 2012.
Towards the end of 2012 I entered the Wedding Industry Awards and although I didn’t reach the national final it was Alice who nominated me and wrote the most amazing piece about why I should win, so rather than writing about the wedding, I thought I would post the testimonial. Thanks for everything Alice it was a real pleasure to capture your big day.
“From the start Darren was the perfect antidote to a very stressful experience. Dont get me wrong i loved getting married and all the planning and preparation that went into it but at time, with all the parents and in-laws and grandparents chipping in it was quite a lot to handle. Darren was very focused about making sure John and I had the support we needed from him to make sure our vision came through though. His attitude was clam but controlled. My mum can be quite head strong at times but Darren was able to delicately but efficiently stear her in our direction without making it a big deal. We had to reschedual our engagment shoot 3 times due to horrendous weather but this was not a problem for Darren, we kept in good contact about when we could redo it and although i was getting stressed we would run out of time, Darren was calm and even offered to come down to london to do it if it became to much.
On the actual day, Darren merged into our wedding party with ease and discression. We had him for the full day and so being at our house whilst i was getting ready was something my dad was not very keen on, but when we finally showed my Dad the photos he hadnt even realise he was there so the shots were a real surprise and treat! Darrens observation of people and their quirks really makes his photos special. There are a few photos of people during our wedding breakfast speechs where he has really caught their mannerisms. They will be photos that we treasure dearly and so much more than I could have asked for. The ones of John and I are just lovely too especially as I am such a very camera shy person!
Being a graphic designer i have a very clear eye for what i like and dont like and how I think things should be done creatively. (On our first offical meeting i produced numerous mood boards and style sheets which to any other photographer might have been too much or insulting but Darren just smiled and embrassed our vision and really helped me relax into the idea that he had listerned and would take my ideas and make them ours. He seemed genuinely excited to have our input which made it a really special experience and of course reasuring. Come the actual day i was blown away with the delicacy with which he treated both of us so that we could relax into the day and he managed to just caught the whisps of moments of us snatching a kiss or giggling on our way out of church which really have made his photos for us so memorable. We were really able to relax into what was a magnificent day around the people we love and not caught up endless set shots. Even the huge family photo was no problem and in record time we were done. I am so grateful we chose Darren and have nothing but the highest praise for how he helped us.
The beautifully bound box that held our finally wedding disc just sums up the attention to detail and care that he put into making us feel as precious and valable as possible and not just another customer. Infact at no point did we feel like a customer but rather at least an acquaintance and towards the end very much a friend. His facebook and blog were great fun to as he was really quick at turning out our photos so we were able to put the link of a beautiful small show reel he did for us to share with our guests in our thank you cards which was really lovely.”
